After the devastating Italian earthquake, a glimmer of hope has emerged that brings joy to everyone’s hearts. Romeo the dog somehow survived after being trapped under rubble for 9 days.
The dog was asleep when the building came down. His owners managed to escape through the top floor, but he was trapped in the basement, and they had to give up trying to dig him out after a few hours.
When the owners came back more than a week later, they heard something incredible: Romeo was still barking.
Then the owners launched a full rescue with the help of the authorities. Amazingly, there was nothing wrong with the dog!
This happened in San Lorenzo a Flaviano, a tiny village that was hit hard by the quake. To date, more than 200 people have died from this quake in Italy.
They’re working hard to salvage what they can, but no more people are being rescued. That’s because the last person to be pulled from the wreckage alive was on August 24th.
The head of the reconstruction effort, Vasco Errani, made a promise to all those made homeless by the quake. He said that within 7 months, they would be back in houses in their own territory.
